I read this when you posted but I forgot to come back and post a comment! My goodness how utterly unnecessary but dang, crap will happen from time to time! My niece's beagle suddenly became paralyzed and she doesn't have the money for the treatment, $3,000 with only a 75% chance the poor thing will recover! They are just at a loss and heartbroken on what to do! sam

I think I would really like Smooch, and I am glad that he is home safe. I have a similar problem with my lab when folks stop by, she will not stop barking until they pet her, but she scars the crap out of em most times...Its good for salesmen though.

Well Adnohr I am afraid black marks are being distributed. Even when laying poison make sure the dogs cannot get to it. Not only that a poisoned animal would make probably make a puppy sick. Keep it under lock and key. My cat who ignores birds jumped in the grass and pulled out a poor little baby blue tit. I shouted at it, but it was dead, and she just left it and looked at me, she thought it was a mouse., I would certainly try one of those whistle devices that are used to train dogs. Smooch wants to be friendly, if he puts his paws on you, he probably thinks it is great fun. I hope you are not thinking that you would like to blow the whistle at me.

There couldn't have been much of it left - I never put out alot
in the first place. The person who was here working can't remember seeing it, but agreed it was possible that he had put it down (his memory is not good, and getting worse). I know it was there, and it's not there now. I'm having to watch myself now too, what with a puppy and the rug rats. Too used to having just adults around, and older dogs who won't touch anything but their own food.

I'm surprised that Smooch made it through if it was indeed rat poison. That stuff is mean. One has to be so careful and so watchful around children and pets. I'm so glad he is better.

Same here, Nautikos
He forgets to sit and stay when people come in - he gets so excited. Then the visitors, because he is so tall, starts pushing at him, and he thinks 'Oh boy! Playtime!!' Things go downhill from there..until I get out the broom. For some reason he is afraid of it, and he's never been hit with one here. Just show it to him and he slinks off to the corner, LOL!

NO, don't tell her, Jimmy
It's bad enough I have to go through it, being an animal lover too - no use two of us feeling bad.

Re: Kabu is coping quite well with the news. Smooch is such a darling
LOL, Kabu. Smooch has to go back to see them next week for his 3rd vaccination, and to get a checkup before the big 'O'. He is doing fine now, have been checking his stools too - but I will mention it to them for sure!

Hell no, Wiley!
I wrap that stuff up extra foolproof whenever I discard it, and never put it outside, in water, etc. It is always high in the cupboards where the mice go - little buggers seem to avoid my traps, although Fred caught a couple downstairs last year. I think I mentioned to you that this friend who was doing the job had the beginning of alzheimers? One of the reasons I hire him - he has trouble working elsewhere, but I'm in no hurry. He probably forgot that he had even put the stuff down. Still - I should have been more careful , but I too had forgotten the darned stuff was even in that top cupboard.

Rat poison, oh boy!!! I am very relieved that Smooch has recovered and is doing well!
About his habit of jumping on people - we have had the same problem with Ben! Now we make him 'sit' and 'stay' away from the door before the visitor enters the house. (Nobody comes in unannouced - he lets us know, LOL.) It has helped a bit, though hasn't solved the problem entirely - he sometimes forgets in his excitement to greet the visitor...

These are the kinds of stories I can never relay to my wife. She's such an animal lover, and she would have been so upset! Glad he's doing better!

Forgot to say it's good Smooch is recovering. It's so hard
to see a pup suffer.

My mom had a way of breaking pups from jumping up.
She'd talk sweetly to them while stepping on their hind toes. That would bring them back to all fours. Then she'd bend and pet them. I thought it was hypocritical, but they didn't jump on her more than a time or two.

Kabu is coping quite well with the news. Smooch is such a darling
she can forgive him for the Chipmunk. The trouble for Chipmunks is that they look too much like a mouse. Graysome too gets confused. Praised all over the house for killing a mouse and he has toy mice to play with but he is NOT to touch a Chipmunk.
I would take Smooch back to the Vet or ring him at least and make sure Smooch will be alrught from now on. Oh dear it is tough being me. So much, so many animals to worry about.

Unfortunate happening luv and I wouldn't even spread that poison outdoors because it will kill, birds, chipmunks and the like. Why not set traps? I am happy the pup is alright and have a happy Sunday.
