That must have been the thoughts of my Grandfather Jelinek when he went down in those coal mines everyday, and yet he did, and his son when he got old enough. Even when my uncle fell in a shaft and broke his neck and died in the blackness, grandpa kept going down, day after day after day until his lungs became black and he died in his fifties.
