Mmm - the smell of a new book is delicious! A book is a companion, a friend. A kindle is handy if you want to carry stories to read when you go on trips. I think, Pat, than you can highlite passages, and make notes on pages that can easily be found later, but I have no idea how it's done...nor have I tried to discover the how...yet.

Rest assured . . . you are not alone! I too am sick of this so-called "modern technology," and also still love to hold an actual book ( hardcover or paperback ) in my hands! Viva la defiance!

I've come as far as I want to as well with all this technology and I find I am very anxious by times trying to solve difficulties with all this stuff. I'm sticking with books.

I loved this post because I am one of those that refuses to move into the modern world with things like cell phone, Kindle, and other modern gadgets.  Give me a book--one I can carry in my bag, a yellow highlighter, a pen for making comments along the edges of the page.  When you call me, leave a message on my answering machine.  I'll call you back later...or maybe not.

Re: Naut's gem of protest against Kindle a la Wordsworth!!!

I love it! And bow to the creativity within those "immortal" lines.

Re: CCT -- "I once was lonely in my shroud...."

Your parody on Daffodils must have been priceless!  Shows to go ya that Western Lit can spur creative responses, and we all love a good joke. :)

Pat

You may recall that once upon a time
I weighed in mightily against that vile device
But love of ease makes traitors of us all
And so I did succumb to its allure in easing
Those creeping hours spent in waiting for
A nurse’s ‘Get thee hither into the Presence’
And those spent recumbent on some creaky gurney
Under a silent maiden’s gently ministering hands…

Or if the silly bugger had thought about it. Well I like his daffodils, although once in a fit of pigue I parodied that I am sorry to say. I once was lonely in my shroud I had no time for ails and ills etc. Just shows sweetie the black mood nothing to do with you.
