Re: Re: There might also be something one could all 'counter-chauvinism.'

Here in the US we have our fascist white supremacists who fancy themselves Christian.  They aren't, of course...

Re: MCP

I am a feminist myself, though I am male. But you are right ; you gotta say no without feeling guilty sometimes.

Ciel, you dont want to mess with those guys. Remember what happened to Salman Rushdie ? and Dan Brown was lucky not to suffer a similar fate only because the Pope was too busy doing damage control after the Paedophile scandals that had besieged the Church. By writing this, I myself risk excommmunication, but I am not that worried because the Holy Father doesn't care much for newspapers or blogs.

Re: it seems as though by trying not to offend you I did anyway. Sorry.

No need to apologise KABU. You have not said anything to offend me. And in any case I have a very thick skin and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. Freedom of speech, that is what International Press Freedom Day was all about, day before yesterday.

I actually don't think anyone meant to be offensive to you.

There might also be something one could all 'counter-chauvinism.'

The answer to someone's putting forth their achievements is not to cut the legs out from under them, but to write up the long list of your own achievments.

I don't think that book you spoke of is the problem.  I think it triggered a deeper thing: the long history of European chauvinistic imperialism that planted the seeds of outrage and resentment wherever they went. Those who planted the seeds, and those who for many generations, tended them, are no longer the powers of the world.  But their legacy remains, like any invasive species that may look nice in the home garden, but abroad, is a noxious weed.

My impression of your previous blog post was that it expresses the anger you feel at the attitude that still invades the world, of imperialist chauvinism.  I understand it, and share it:  Right now, the worst offenders, in my opinion, are the religious fascists who think they know the Divine Mind and Will, and note that I don't pin that to only one religion. In fact, every religion has its mad men and saints... and sometimes they are the same guys.

They are the current crop of those who think we need what they know, and that we should be grateful for being 'enlightened."

Wow! That smack left a mark! To me, in today's terms, a "chauvinist" is any man who does not completely agree with or comply to all of the feminists demands! Sometimes you just gotta say No!"
