Personally, I never found him to be a great writer...though he was a wonderful storyteller...yes, there is a difference.  I tell great stories but in my own opinion I am a mediocre writer.

What she wrote about Homer makes sense. I'm going to look for a copy of that book - it sounds like one I would enjoy reading.

Ok, Naut, because you got me wondering, I checked ahead. She doesn't address the Bible per se, which is generally not taught in Lit classes.  But she does have a chapter on how translating it into languages ordinary people understood and the invention of the printing press that spread translations far and wide had a tendency to threaten the power of the Catholic Church in the 1500s.

I get really tired of trying to find something good to watch on TV.   I often prefer to not turn it on and to sit facing the big window watching the birds sing and the flowers grow.  I get so tired of people's argumentative or high pitched yelling voices.  I will always love books but I'm getting picky about my choices.

There is absolutely nothing "they" can put on TV that can replace curling up with a good book, a "classic" if you will. And yes, today's society will always seem to cater to the lowest common denominator, simply because they have now become the "majority!"
