I found it to be intriguing that he waits for you and yet he pushes the button so to speak when his internal clock as it were says it's time to get going on the day! He is indeed a smart animal! sam

I think by nature animals are incredibly intuitive

and at the end of the day, they have us all doing stupid human to amuse them without us even realizing what they are doing.

It's interesting to read of the routine...I'm curious as to whether or not he knows that you know where he is even when you are not present in a room.

Nautikos

I think you and Ben are going to wind up with the same therapist to help with human/animal paranoia. I'm watching you.LOL I gotta go, I see the blue jays are watching the crows.

Naut I suppose the dog was once a pack animal and relied on instinct and small indistinguishable signs (to us) for survival. Ben has probably sussed every facial expression and probably reads you like a book. I don't think he reasons with any command you give him, because he can tell by the tone of your voice if you are serious or want to play around with him. Just an opinion, Ben might think well that's the opinion of a proper jerk.

He knows, if he didn't why would he even look at you in the morning...He knows, you know he knows.

Oh this is the sweetest story. Are you aware in your sleep this intelligent hound dog may be lurking around and through areas you would not approve of? Nor am I aware of such behavior, but I do believe he knows you are there whether he sees you or not. I love this post.  Animals are much smarter than we give them credit. Are we smart enough to find the limit of credit due them?

they know and yes reason far more than we have been brought up

to believe.

now when I started nursing they tried to tell me that infants don't feel pain. balderdash is what i said and balderdash it has been proven. Same with our animal family members. The very fact that Ben is curled up in sleep position in this picture but with his eyes open he knows what you are doing. those eyes say it all.

I have some of the same questions about cats.  Pitiful would never get on the dining-room table when we were around, but there were always signs that she had been on it during the night--especially if there were a flower arrangement in the middle of the table.

Ben is such a beautiful dog and seems to be wise while following your actions. I think he knows!

I believe he knows. He's studied your habits, and

his livelihood and well-being depend on forming accurate guesstimates.
