Yes, there's the dystopian trend, and on the other hand there's the placard-waving one! Of course, sometimes they come together, LOL...In any case, I think your stories hold up well on their own, without recepies...

No hurry -- you've still got time to write one. Turns out the deadline isn't until Nov. 15 of this year. And since the winner won't be announced until February, take your own sweet time with this one.
Plus, which, I just noticed the entry fee is $20.

Pat perhaps people want to feel that others are faring much worse than themselves. I suppose the results will not come out for quite a while, I know someone who entered everything and for a while did very well as sometimes the entries already low. Unfortunately I don't think this will happen in your case. Well you see dear we have to be gloomy.
