Beachbelle, I'm sure the few minutes you spent
listening provided some relief to your friend. Some day you and I might find ourselves in their position. I always think, it could be me.

Recently I have missed a couple of trains and been late for appointments because I asked this question.
I ran into a friend a few weeks ago whose family life had fallen to pieces because his wife had wanted to move on to someone else. In the few months since I had seem him, he had lost his house, his wife, the joy of living with his children, and his job. The third of those was the hardest to bear. When he told me this I couldn't exactly say, "Nice to see you too," and run on. So I was a few minutes late for an appointment. I apologized to the person I was meeting and said I had been delayed because I had bumped into a friend in need.

There are those who feel that no encounter leaves the parties involved unchanged, no matter how slight or inconsequential we may think it to be. I agree. Your encounter with this individual might have just been the catalyst for her to gather the strength to carry on, or more.
Nice post!
