Keep it coming, Nautikos. I am certain that you have checked your facts before putting them down here and, doing what you do, are most able in the research of the truth. This is getting more and more interesting...AND more and more worrisome.

Iran is taking steps to head off potential starvation of it's citizens:

Iran Takes 'Urgent Steps' As Saturday Cut-Off Looms
(from Newsmax.com)
"The sanctions vice is tightening on Iran, cutting it out of key global financial networks, but Tehran is taking urgent steps to withstand the pressure over a nuclear program the West suspects is intended to produce bombs.
The SWIFT system, which handles most cross-border payments, said in Brussels on Thursday it would disconnect Iranian institutions blacklisted by sanctions from its messaging system on Saturday at 1600 GMT, after a European Union order and pressure from the United States.
Money exchange houses in the Gulf said they were ceasing dealing in the risky Iranian rial, in another blow to Tehran's trading channels.

Meanwhile, Reuters shipping data showed that vessels carrying at least 360,000 tons of grain are lined up to unload in Iran, in a sign Tehran is stockpiling huge amounts of food to blunt the impact of tougher Western sanctions.
The Islamic Republic has even begun buying wheat from its arch-enemy — the United States.
The sanctions make it difficult to obtain letters of credit or conduct international transfers of funds through banks. So instead, Iran has bought around 2 million ton of wheat since February at a premium to international prices in currencies including Japanese yen and Russian roubles.

"There is no doubt in my mind it is geopolitical hedging. They are trying to get as much as they can in the country to blunt the effect of any further escalation in international sanctions," Rabobank commodities analyst Nick Higgins said.

*The sanctions regime exempts food.

However, a nation cannot live indefinitely on bread alone...

Nautikos

I like this blog. I don't dare speak in totality what I believe to be solid truth about this issue. I will only say I know for a fact that any nation harming or any one denying aid to Israel will suffer dire consequences. Keep doing your research. Thank you.

LONDON/BRUSSELS (Reuters) - "The sanctions vice is tightening on Iran, cutting it out of key global financial networks, but Tehran is taking urgent steps to withstand the pressure over a nuclear programme the West suspects is intended to produce bombs."

I'm afraid the ability of sanctions to take care of the problem are far overrated and getting nearer to sterile all the time.  The tougher the additional sanctions, the more determined are the Iranians.

Any President of the U.S., regardless of party - must first and foremost concern himself with the security of his or her nation. Obama oversaw the killing of our murderous enemy, Bin Laden so he is solid in the foreign policy area. This is why you don't see the Republican candidates attacking him full force in this area; they make a few noises here and there and try to use the defense of Israel as a talking point, but truth of the matter is, Iran has not went nuclear, sanctions have been tightened, not loosened under Obama and Israel remains unharmed by Iran or Egypt. Republicans know they don't have a leg to stand on.
We cannot continue as all encompassing protectors of other countries anymore. The recent horror in Afghanistan drives home the fact that we cannot morally afford another war - we are bankrupt in more ways than one.

I'll come back in tomorrow and read your 2 latest posts, Naut. It's late, and I'm tired and the words are floating...I want to understand what you are saying, but that isn't going to happen tonight.

My hope is that he will not win in November! And, he seems to always say one thing while he means another thing! He can't be trusted and I fear the worse for this country if he is indeed reelected! sam
