I think doing a piece on cleaning the kitchen sink would require a lot of work with CLR and make that sink shine like new.No editing required but Kabu says boring.

Good Rule! Makes it easier to wipe out that irrelevant but delicious stuff.

I like kitchen sink scenes if they are well written. It's like chasing a fat rabbit when you are hungry.

I would write what you please or what pleases you, there are probably 1 million billion people who will like it. Who worries about the other motley crowd.

My problem is that I forget that people aren't in my head and sometimes
I use too much Aussie slang or not enough of the kitchen sink stuff.
Editing hurts though doesn't it!

Re: Agreeing with Naut--there are some things, we need to provide more dots.
Ceil, you remind me of myself -- those 'Aha!' moments, the thought-provoking stuff, I agree with you, that's the reason I read.

Agreeing with Naut--there are some things, we need to provide more dots.
Others, they are already there, on the reader's own charts.
personally, i like the kind of stories that require some thinking, and grant me the 'Aha!' moments.

They could both be right! If you write about science (even science fiction, which I don't like because much of it ain't science but 'science', LOL), you have to explain everything, because of the inevitable scientific illiteracy in the population at large.
But - most people do have an intimate knowledge of the 'normal', everyday world, even more than they can tell...So, throwing the kitchen sink at them is boring and even insulting, unless you can throw it in interesting ways or show them that it has qualities they had never thought of before...
