From My Heart, Ink...

...for the words are already written there, just in a different form.

But I never said that I didn't believe in the Bible, I said that I did not believe the Bible was the infallible Word of God to man.

I believe that the Bible is the best attempt of humankind telling other humans about their various attempts at finding God, worshipping that understanding of God, and the ultimate results of those attempts.  As such, the Bible is a very important historical and philosophical document.  I might even say a crucial document.

But there is nothing in this world where forms are worshipped over and above content that one can even begin to touch the perfection of the Kingdom.

So anyone who says that they believe in the Bible because it represents something of God in their lives has missed the point.

God is what He is because He is BEYOND belief.  Exactly sorta like the truth.  Exactly.

Jesus didn't only give one commandment

The Great Commandment

And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.  (Mark 12:28-34, see also Matthew 22 and Luke 10)

And if you say you don't believe in the Bible, then from what source do you quote Jesus?

Mitchell's Tao Te Ching...

Has been in my library for years.  And I've actually read it a time or two.  But beyond 81 chapters, I can never seem to recall the specific chapters and what they said.

I only remember thinking, "yes."

Excellent

What a great blog this was.

I have recommended this book so many times to so many on this Network that I must ask your forgiveness if I recommend it to you--again. But it is the best--and I mean the best--treatise on the life of Jesus of Nazareth that I have ever read: The Gospel According to Jesus, by Stephen Mitchell. Of course, Christian fundamentalists decried the book at its publication and even tried to have it suppressed (as they do with all things that threaten them or their worldview), but it has survived, and instructed, and I place it amongst the greatest pieces ever written about the man Jesus, not the clothes fundies worship in their dark places. I'd really love to dialogue with someone on this Network about Mitchell's work, so buy it!

you are the man
It is such a relief to see a few other fans of Jesus on this network who understand Him as I do. Inkling means quite well, but you make sense.
