hooray!
Even if eventually the kid has to go back to his dad, you have this time to strengthen your bond with him, and to show him what love looks like. Every day he is with you gives him a better chance of getting through the rest, if he must.
At least, with all the official attention, his dad will maybe clean up his act to some degree.
