- Go to New bullet train service between Chicago and Detroit
Two Questions.....
Why on earth would it go to Detroit? How in the hell are we going to pay for it?

I once took one of those German ICE trains form Munich to Hamburg - the most comfortable train I have ever been on, with a great diner and a bar, mostly travelling at 200 km/h (125 m/h), although they can go quite a bit faster than that. (The speed is continuously posted overhead on electronic signs.) They're very quiet and you have no sensation of that speed unless you look out the window...

Fast train, that would be something for me to get used to.

Re: Will you be riding it?
I've been thinking about taking the train to Seattle and then to Salem, Oregon, but couldn't go because of health issues. I think next summer I may get there...

Hmmmm
I love Amtrak...used to take it from Portland to Seattle on a regular basis. Chicago is not too far from here, I could hop the train, pay way more than I would in gas and get home a little bit faster LOL!

They keep talking about this fast rail in Australia too but the lines would
all have to be replaced...and we don't have so many people to ride the rails.

Re: catching up with Europe and Japan --
If our "leaders" weren't so focused on the auto industry, public transportation would have been much more available -- Big Motors bought out the old streetcar networks around here so folks would have to own a car to get to the factory jobs. We'd have better air quality if so many of us weren't burning fossil fuel.

I guess in the States you're beginning to catch up with Europe and Japan - here in Canada we're not quite there yet...
