Thank you.  It was very, very special and the memory of it delighted me for months after!

Bob

Fabulous! What an adventure, and so well described! I know what I'm gonna ask for come Father's Day...

Re: Let me know how you make out. The Texan is pretty hot!

Almost all of our WWll fighter pilots trained in the T6 Texan and if it was good enough for them I'll go...heck I'd go for an old Curtis, but dream about Mustangs, Lightnings, and A4 Coarse Airs.

Now, going flyin' with Meg Ryan - that would be a present (though I'm not sure Father's Day would be a good choice).

Sounds much more fun than Meg Ryan to me. My Mother went flying in a By

plane in the 1920's....the pilot was killed a few weeks later...and she used to worry and say no to anything me and Sis wanted to try!

Re: I just re-checked the website, and they have only the other three

planes.  I know there are other groups out there with rides, and one of them had a two-seater Mustang, but it wasn't History Flights.  There was a B-24 out there last year, which my friend Ted visited - he was a navigator-bombardier in WWII.  He called his position in the nose his "office."

I hear their T6 can give you a lot of thrills for the money (and it is a bit pricey).

I just can't imagine flying in a P51, hearing that big 16 cylinder Merlin fire up and shut out the rest of the world. I am going to their web site right now and see if by chance they are coming here, or someplace close. I plan on watching It's Complicated this week end or next...I'll let you know what we think.

Re: I went up in a small plane with a pilot named Chuck once.

We didn't do anything spectacular. If I ever save enough money to go up again, I'll ask for a barrel roll maybe, but I wasn't ready for it this time - my cup was absolutley full with the exaltation of actually flying in a two-winger!  It was a beautifully kept plane, and my eyes teared up in joy when that big motor started!  I was so psyched!

I went up in a small plane with a pilot named Chuck once.

Short circle around, but oh, my what a thrill. It was a country airport, no tower, and as we were about to land, a bigger plane, carrying passengers, came roaring up the runway, we looped up, no problem, and circled a time or two, landed. Not as spectacular as your flight, but I got a hint of what it's like to be a bird. Loved your father's day gift.

Re: REALLY??? Man, I KNEW we were brothers under the skin!

I've gotten away from it in recent years, but I'm a modelmaker, too.  Mainly I made boat models, notably 4-foot  RC sailboats ( a racer and two schooners), but I've done a number of balsa and tissue flying models.  Currently on my workbench there are a lot of unfinished items: a big plank-on-frame tugboat, a display model of a Revolutionary privateer, 4-foot model of the USS Missouri, and a big untissued Guillows SBD.  The plane I took the ride in was, as I'm sure you guessed, a big ol' Stearman PT 17.  It belongs to this barnstorming outfit you may have heard of called History Flights that tours the country giving rides in the PT, an A6 Texan, a P51, and, recently, a B25.

I stilll re-play in my mind that flight I took in the Stearman!  It was unforgettable, and I labored long over the poem till it said what I wanted.
