Re:
That's true. The Red Wings are doing amazingly well . . . but so are my Rangers! Hey, 21 consecutive home wins are 21 consecutive home wins, regardless if in regulation time, OT or a shootout. I don't want to jump ahead or get too hopeful, but they could still face each other in the Cup finals! That would be something! And if they do, watch out . . . all bets are off!

I have been watching your Rangers and they are neck and neck with my Red Wings for most points in the NHL! Tonight my Wings go for 21 straight wins at home and I would be one happy hockey fan if they do it! It would break an 80 year old record! I have read where some are scoffing at it because of the OT and shootouts present in the NHL but the teams are more evenly balanced due to the salary cap and it's harder to get a win in this era in my opinion! Nonetheless, it is a great feat and I love it! sam

Re: It seems to be a new and alarming trend....and it is sick.
Well, it is alarming and it is sick, but unfortunately, it's not new, at least not here in New Jersey. I've been reading about such things for years. It's only been recently that anyone in the government sees it as a potential problem, and thus are now trying to do something about it. Although, like I wrote, it should simply come down to people applying a little common sense, something else apparently in short supply!

Re:
I'm not sure machismo has anything to do with it. I still feel it boils down to simple common sense, and paying attention to your surroundings.

Thanks. But please . . . don't get me started on distracted drivers!

Re:
That may be true, but again, regardless of how much you're in a hurry or how much may be on your mind at any given moment, that shouldn't undermine that most basic of instincts - self-preservation. Your safety should always come first!

Absent-minded
From what I have seen lately on the road hardly anyone is paying attention to their driving. I watched a girl driving to work putting make-up on with one hand on the wheel and one eye on her egotistic self. There are thousands of these stories. When Ilived in NC a girl crashed and died all because she was eathing french fries and driving. Now, that is truly a waste. Loved this post,

In this speed of sight world everyone is in a hurry, we see this here too, very sad, but as long as there are time clocks, and meetings not to miss, loud music and the feeling that this cannot happen to me. As long as there are cars and trains, cars and trucks, cars and cars, and cars and people this will continue to happen...police presence or not.

You're right. If that was the case, then it is very sad. Again, I'm sorry.

Re:
Yes, it is mind boggling! That's why I was somewhat irate when I read that article, then posted this blog. Every one of those "accidents" were avoidable. People just don't seem to pay attention anymore, or else they've allowed themselves to become too distracted. It's a shame.

Re: Truly, it's crazy that so many deaths occur this way. Interesting you
Well, I hate to say it, but the key words in your statement were "with his headphones on." Simply put, being constantly aware of your surroundings can literally save a life! I'm sorry your cousin died that way, but it was preventable.

should mention it, but YEARS ago, one of my cousins (a teenager at the time) lived up your way and died from walking on the tracks with his headphones on! Not sure if it was attempted suicide or what...
