A lot of other civilizations can make a similar lament, but the worst
thing of all is that we never learn any better. I once heard a tape of a wise history scholar saying that the first thing we learn from history is that we never seem to learn from history! We just keep stumbling on in greed, indifference, and pride, making the same mistakes again and again.
