Re: Annicita, the rhythm can be everything. If it's that kind of poem
and if I've had a beer or two, I set up the 4-beat rhythm by snapping my fingers 4 times before I start. (Better look at them while you're doing it, or it looks pretty lame!)

I'll never forget Mom dragging me along to Jones' Basement Sales when I was a kid. On the regular floors everything was hung on hangers, in order, soft music playing, floors with soft carpeting, and sales ladies offering their assistance. But Mom always hurried to the basement sales where there were huge tables with everything piled up on them in a big mess and customers reaching and grabbing. No music, just ladies arguing over items. Of course Mom was trying to stretch her dollar to meet the needs of a family of nine.

Re: Thanks, Sam. The slam and open-mike showed me a side of poetry
I'd never really SEEN before. Simply put, it's this- a poem is the words of somebody excited about something and wanting to tell you about it while it's still fresh in his mind! At the mike you BECOME that someone.

Re: The new three stooges? Ella, Darth and Inno?
Thanks, Pat. They're the Vader kids, but only Darth made good.

Re: CC, I don't know. Some rap - when I can understand the words - is
hostile, illiterate, hateful crap, but not all of it. There IS a witty, complex style to some of it that I really admire and wish that I could learn the hang of. What I write are 8-beat, 4-stress lines that rhyme and leave a lot up to the performer. If you watch a real rap artist perform at the mike and really "sell" his song, it's exciting.
I'm looking into Dragon this week when I see my son, who knows about all this stuff.
