I agree. A lot of great writing has come from relating those not-so-fine moments.

In my opinion, it's not so much vulnerability as it is a measure of risk-taking. In one form or another, everyone is vulnerable. As a writer, I think you may have been referring to people's reluctance to make themselves vulnerable by exposing too much of their own personal views, opinions and ideology. Depending on your own standard for a writing style and subject matters, everybody doesn't need to know everything about your personal life! Some things should remain a mystery, while other things are better left unexposed!
