Troubling post..

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/04/world/middleeast/04mossad.html

Have you seen this article, Nautikos? It is about the former head of Mossad - Meir Dagan who was appointed by Ariel Sharon (the man is no soft hearted liberal, in other words) and his unease over the possibility of an Israeli military attack on Iran.
an excerpt:
"Mr. Dagan went on to complain that Israel had failed to put forward a peace initiative with the Palestinians and that it had foolishly ignored the Saudi peace initiative promising full diplomatic relations in exchange for a return to the 1967 border lines. He worried that Israel would soon be pushed into a corner.
On Thursday he got more specific, naming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak, but this time through a leaked statement to journalists. The statement had to do with his belief that his retirement and the retirement of other top security chiefs had taken away a necessary alternative voice in decision making.
In recent months, the military chief of staff, Gabi Ashkenazi, and the director of the Shin Bet internal security agency, Yuval Diskin, have also stepped down. Mr. Dagan was quoted in several newspapers as saying that the three of them had served as a counterweight to Mr. Netanyahu and Mr. Barak.

“I decided to speak out because when I was in office, Diskin, Ashkenazi and I could block any dangerous adventure,” he was quoted as saying. “Now I am afraid that there is no one to stop Bibi and Barak,” he added, using Mr. Netanyahu’s nickname."

My husband lost a cousin who was also his best friend in Iraq a few years ago. We as Americans, led into the needless tragedies of war, take it very seriously and we are not the only ones. There is a reason why Ron Paul has a strong base of young people in uniform. I have my issues with Mr. Obama but I am glad he is not rushing us into another conflict.

no war

No need to go to war or push buttons, just eliminate the troublemakers.    OOOps!!!!!

I would be overjoyed if my son,( who is thinking about going into the military to be a medic)  was not going to be sent into a war zone.

This is terrible! I hope they are not going to do such a foolish thing! And then I ponder if my country would support Israel! I just got news that my son's deployment has been cancelled and he will not be deployed to a war zone for three years! Then we talked about Iran, and well... we will see! I am so tired of war, but it seems there is no end in sight! The hate continues! sam

I am reminded just how serious it is, and again nothing is being written about it.

Again an scary post Naut... but let me give you some perhaps fullish insight, but never the less one which I have acquired by personal experience.  My husband was born in Iran, and as a consequence of that , not by choice G-d knows, I have  some very dear friends and lots of acquaintances from that part of that world.  It is been my impresion that they are more talk than fact and volatile and  unpredictable to the nth degree .  There is no way anyone can tell what they are going to do or not to do at a given time because they do not react like we do... Their way of thinking is totally different and the things we hold precious, like life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness ( not to be corny... it just came out  loll)  well they are just not into those things in the same way that we are.  Its hard to explain but they respect only brute force... Sanctions??? Oh please... they could care less about that, or about the suffering of their people... What is good for whatever nut is leading them at the moment is what goes and that is that.  Yes I speak Farsy some Arabic as well as fluent Hebrew...  and I read the news in their language... which its beyond scary if you ask me.  total demagogy.  They if they could would blow up Israel in a NY minute and us too... but as I tell you this I want to make clear that there is also an innocence within their population... that silent majority everyone speaks about even here in the US... well it exists in Iran as well, and they are good people, most of them,  almost like children in their ways, but as children  are  sometimes, they can be very cruel as well... Their leaders know this and exploit it... <<

Actually I have been following it some because somehow yesterday I had an Iranian newspaper came up in my computer news page. Tehran Times? Well me thinks it's time they 'ran', because otherwise Iran will all be turned to glass with or without Obama's help.Oh, and how about our Minister of Defence marrying an Iranian beauty huh?
