Aahh! from Philadelphia PA

I know just how you feel.  It is scarey for the pup and even more for the owner.  It sounds like you've got somewwhat of a grip on the situation.  Good Luck

I have to say this to Phil now and then when he gets too excited:  "Enough!’ I told him sternly, holding him tighter. ‘Enough!!’ I repeated louder."   I never thought about the blanket part though.  LOL

Oh boy, what a scene, but you certainly handled it well. But there are some environments that will upset any dog. I remember that even Jag, who was extremely well socialized, didn't like visits to the vet all that much. He always had that expression 'Let's get outa here, okay?'

We once used a liquid dewormer for our cats, before Norda the black lab came to live with us. It must have tasted horrible. After the first treatment, every time Whopy, one of the cats seen the bottle she would start gaging and salavating, and Norda hates the vet, once there she will not get out of the car and there is a hundred and twenty pounds of no behind those four paws tearing at my seat. Great post.

Just the picture made me smile.  I'm glad you know all about doggies.  I would have had an anxiety attack myself if I had a dog having an anxiety attack.

Wonderful it is to watch our pets grow.

Our pets are just like our kids, I guess. You are dealing with social anxiety and I'm dealing with cancer on my cat's nose; won't be too much longer before we will have to put her to sleep. She has lasted much longer than we have expected. Must have been all the loving attention we give her.  Enjoyed the pics.

"I couldn’t help but wonder what they’d be saying if he was a full grown, 100 lb pit."

I'd be saying 'salut', 'bye, bye,'  come vist me in a cage sometime, leave your mattress at home, bring your Mistress. Matter of fact by now I would have paid the vet to keep him. LOL

I know someone who might be able to offer some pointers.

http://www.dancingdogs.co.nz/

My daughter is a dog behaviorist/trainer who is very generous with her time and advice when someone and their dog need her.  There is a lot of very useful information on her website, including how to contact her if you want to ask things specifically about Smooch the Pooch.

Feel free to let her know I recommended you get in touch.

We didn't know about doggie psych or use words like

"socialization" when I was raising kids & dogs. I'd never heard of "pack mentality" and "alpha dog" as a part of training and house-breaking pups. I just knew I was the mom and in charge, and had the scary responsibility of bringing them up right. Your little Smooch must be smart as heck, to be so hyper aware of his surroundings. Great idea to take Grump along on the next "training mission." I got a big grin out of this story.

That was tough luck Anhdor, I don't mean the trauma, just the vet visit. I expect you can train him though. Dogs are all different even in litters.

Good Mama

That was a precious story. I am glad you knew to be firm with him. Too much coddling can spoil a child or a pet. Both are stronger adults with firm treatment. I could see the sweet little one snuggling to your feet.

I don't think I have heard of the social anxiety before! My goodness, poor Smooch! And I thought it was going to be about the dancing after the Habs scored and you the culprit! LOL! It is about the work to get a great animal and I know you will be successful! Early game today, are you going to be able to watch? sam
