Each Have Good Points to Add to This Odd Behavior

I agree with each of you.  It is very true that RESPECT in many places has vanished. On DRAGNET...JUST THE FACTS would stop the commentaries and the glorification of bad behavior.  Role models would be better if the Reality shows would vanish.  Again, this is something that needs changing at the grassroots level. Thanks for all comments!

Showing kindness is one way to combat things! My daughter is a hair dresser and she can spot the kids who have a good upbringing as opposed to those who don't by the way they sit in her chair for a haircut! Also, she says it has nothing to do with race or income. I believe the ones who appear to have less income have the best kids! It is just about bad parenting! sam

Dr.JPT

Imagine, I have no answers for today's society. The whole of society will have to change and politicians can't do that job. I think there must be people in psychology, philosophy, and perhaps scientists who could apply themselves to making society over. Spirituality ought to be taught in schools rather than religion I think, or teach world religions and allow the student to choose his/her own path. You raise interesting topics and you know this one has made me sit and actually THINK about it all. Well, it's better than just saying I don't know right?

So important it is for us to act and make sure that these sorts of things do not happen.

This is so true in our society today where it takes both parents working to make ends meet, it seems it is the children who fall through the cracks.

There have been certain advantages

To raising a child in a smaller town.  She was taught RESPECT.

I was not exposed to TV until I was an adult, or almost so.

These days we're subjected to dysfunction and an unnatural focus on the seamier side of human nature 24-7 and on dozens of channels.

We used to get the news in a calm voice, delivered without adjectives -- just what happened, no editorializing or opinion. The "ain't it awful" focus by news personalities on cable networks tends to program young people; it encourages violent behavior as the proper response to perceived injustice.

It's not only scary, it's sad. The 'me-myself & I' generation practically abolished the word respect. The only way we are ever going to change things is for each of us to do our part, however small, by holding out a helping hand when we're able.
