I never picked up the distinct Baltimore accent (i.e. Bawmer instead of Baltimore and using Hon) despite living so close to it and having family who do speak that way.

Not necessarily
Many Eastern-European dialects sound similar, and personally, I have a difficult time discerning between Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Russian and the like. Hey, as long as you're All-American, don't worry about certain pronunciations. People will understand you no matter what!
