Re: I've heard some of that "awesome" stuff
A typing teacher once pointed out that underlining doesn't emphasize if everything is underlined. Do you remember what Eliot piece that was? Poets writing to impress other poets is an interesting idea. On the face of it, it doesn't seem true, but I guess he means other poets can be the severest critics.Does my memory serve me correctly that you are in publishing? I seem to remember reading a "thriller" type piece by you in a couple of installments. Was that you?

Re: CC, your second sentence is a wise insight I don't think I
ever saw before I hope your third sentence turns out. to be wrong. As for your first, I agree about the mundane art - there's no art in the art piece itself except what the viewer reads into it.
Well, that settles that. What esthetic problem do we take up next?

I've heard some of that "awesome" stuff
that to me seems more like "awful." I like your point about the words that prick up listening ears, and how shock for its own sake sometimes becomes dull.
I once got a kick out of something by T.S. Eliot just for its up front imagery and his look at the human condition. Then our teacher led the class through a maze of classic literature, ancient rhymes and obscurities so that we'd get a full measure of appreciation for the man's greatness. He said poets write to impress other poets. Awesome!

I don't know how you can stick it Bob, I am constantly amazed by mundane art being sold for fortunes. I think there is a kind of blindness that makes some think that if they cannot do any better, it must be perfection. I think I am becoming a misery.
