Re: Imperfect people of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose

but your diffidence!  I'm with you, Sam!

All 'heros' have their shortcomings mainly because they are human! Everything is in the eye of the beholder for me and if one is taken aback when they discover the the things they would rather not know it's up to them to get a reality check! lol Good for you to get into those slams from the onset! I can't wait til you tell us you have won! Go for it! sam

Re: It always gets me angry to hear people belittling King by

saying things like, "Yeah, but you know he was no saint himself."  Maybe so, but he did more good with his imperfect self in his short life than all his detractors with their perfect report cards.

I love this poem Bob but then I have many long time black friends going back to 1958, but none of them consider themselves Black-Americans...but simply Americans like everyone else. However I realized just what anger was when I went to the movies with Wanda Parkins, my best friends sister. nothing would even be said now and that is because of Dr. King. That open mic thing sounds like a lot of fun, I haven't done that for more than 30 years.

Self awareness is hard on anyone, even the eloquent.  Many of our heroes have been compromised mortals on a personal level.  They still accomplished great things anyway.

Re: I imagine the heroes are not living comfortable lives, either.

Is it just me, or does everybody always go into the big things never feeling completely ready?  Back when I was in amateur plays, we always showed up for opening night wishing we had one more week of rehearsal.

I imagine the heroes are not living comfortable lives, either.

Very interesting post. Thought provoking.

Re: Spidy, I couldn't agree more. King was an inspired

brave man who helped us outgrow racism.

Brother Bob you are so right, there are not many righteous people perhaps by having heroes we raise our own esteem.  Bob if you have a minute just read my prognosis on Journal. Am I going bonkers.

Yet are we not all human and who is to say that what some call is sin makes you a bad person and to what degree. As it is said ..he who casts the first stone. My heroes are those who care about change to make life easier and bearable for others.
