I think that here to affect politics you have to join the political class (or the process happens naturally once you join because to reform the privalleged class from within means you have to go against self interest)

...oops...on the money - First, strict term limits so that pols spend their
time in office on running the government, not on being re-elected. What's more, they can then make more courageous decisions, knowing they'll be out soon, anyway. Second, complete government financing of political campaigns - absolutely NO private money.

I do not know about England, but over here we can still get involved with our politics and turn things back to the dreams of our fathers. Over here with hard work and a dream anyone can become wealthy. I know because I have made and lost over 7 million dollars.
