Sounds like our night
January 1st has the same affect on me and my wife as April 3rd or June 11th or September 22nd. It's really just another day. The only difference is that now we have to break out the new calendars, and practice writing 2012 instead of 2011. The date of evening doesn't matter much when the Sand Man forces you to struggle to keep your eyes open! New Year's will come whether I see a glowing ball drop or not!

we sat up and turned the tv at midnight to watch the ball fall.
clung to each other and danced a little to Frank Sinatra singing...New York....then toddled off to bed.
