Sadly MS S.F . many people try to avoid the recently bereaved. From my own experience
one wishes the status quo to endure for a while and friends and aquaintances strengthen this illusion. Perhaps some do not wish to awaken lantent feelings of loss and although feeling disturbed cannot bring forth the words which they feel they should. Of course it may be different in your culture.

For me it is being there each year nearly 30 years after her daughter died
contacting her every year.
