I have mixed feelings.

If I am giving a class i don't look at my phone. If I am siting in big room listening to a talk I might have the phone on silent and check incoming stuff. There are some things sufficently important that I at least like to be aware of them, and be able to be considering what to do about them, even if my decision is to do or say nothing at the time, or ever. But of course I am not mucking about and dealing with trite stuff. That I just ignore.

Re: texting in homeroom

Hello....off switch?

I remember when I used to spend many hours on Blogit way back when, and do on other symposia now. My wife is fit to tie me up and shut off the broadband.

This has nothing to do with class, but I was bothered by my grandson not long ago when he and I went out to dinner together after not seeing him for a long time.  When the food came, I noticed he had his head down and I thought he was saying a silent blessing on the meal.  I waited and I waited and I waited and suddenly realized when he laughed out loud that he was thumbing away in his lap.

The phone does not belong in the classroom! My nephew was being bombarded with texts as he was trying to study for a test in his homeroom! He finally texted his sister to text the person who was annoying him so he could study! All this over a breakup! Ugh, where are people's manners when it comes to these things? sam
