Re: I hear you, Jay, but the whole idea of college sports is starting
to irritate me, partly because of the sex scandals, but mainly because I question what that level of professional play is doing in an institution of higher learning anyway at a time when our academic level is so abysmal. That may be the former teacher in me talking but I still have very strong memories of working my ass off summers at Notre Dame and sitting in class and in the cafeteria with the big varsity lunks who didn't know which end was up. Sure they were nice enough guys, but what were they and their game doing in a college??? How in the world were they doing the reading, earning passing grades, doing research, writing their own papers? They weren't! I put it in the same category as my rantings against not having term limits:make the pols get on with the business of governing, not getting re-elected. Second, have TOTAL government funding of campaigns - no private money allowed. That makes me an idealist but things have gotten badly twisted.

Re: You're right, of course, but back in high school would
watch "Wrestling from St. Nick's Arena" in the right spirit, enyoying the ridiculous hype and all - Argentina Rocca, Gorgeous George, etc. Back then I guess half the fun was just watching anything on our new black and white.

Reminds me Bob the boys used to be mad about football and I was walking home with one who dreamed it. Of course being clever I started rambling on about the sport.
After a few minutes he said to me. "I was talking footer not cricket.' Get back to your game.
