Go to Life in the fast lane--where's the on ramp?

- Go to Old Mother Goose
I totally agree. And then I went on to Grimm's and Anderson's Fairy Tales, and from there......

I meant to write 'Jag and I' - I guess I was being as automatically self-effacing as always, LOL...

Fun stuff! 'Baa, Baa Black Sheep' brings two things to mind:
Every night before Jag and are going to bed (okay, let me clarify that: he sleeps next to my bed, not in it) he gets a massage, which I introduced after his surgery and which by now is absolutely de rigeur, as far as he is concerned. And while doing that I sing 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' to him, 'cause he's black and, being a Poodle, has lots of wool, after all. And I've modified the text accordingly, to 'two bags full' as well as 'and both from the little dog that lives in this lane.' I know it's silly, and this is strictly between you and I, don't tell anyone...(And no, we don't use his wool, unlike a woman of my acqaintance, who has a sweater knit from the hair of her Fifi...)
The other silly thing is that apparently in Britain in some schools kids are being taught to sing Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep to be properly inoffensive and inclusive...

Re: PatB I have been thinking maybe it was Queen Elizabeth 1st
who had the head of her cousin Mary Queen of Scots imprisoned for years and finally her head chopped off for espionage with Spain against hers reign cos Mary wanted to be freed and Spain wanted to bring back into Catholicism.

A lovely post and Henry the VIII was the King and he also killed Thomas More and kicked Catholicism out of England, burned the Abbey and Monastries and killed Cromwell.

Vdery true Pat, very true. It's interesting to see the true origins of
poems unearthed. I didn't have a clue of these origins.

Ring a ring of roses etc defined the plague. A definition of each rhyme is on the net, probably better not to read it Pat. I cannot think why it stimulated verse, well I can the English way of overcoming tragedy or neutralising the events.

I remember those also. I helped my children by teaching them the lessons beyond the words that they will learn later in life.
