FormerStudentIntern.. I learned to memorize and had a photographic memory.  I could see the actual page as I took tests.  Most tests were formed as a way to regurgitate the information.  Needless to say I was valedictorian of my class.  When I went to college and had to think! It took me a while to recover from a "C"!  I learned to read and think, then move back to "A's"!!

Kabu.. You definitely have a point.  Most hear history and that is not the same as reading.  Similar to the gossip line taught in grade school.  People add and take away for the original until it is inaccurate.

As my ole daddy used to say

It is not what you know but do you where to get the right answer.

So true! Reading is a great dynamic that is so under utilized and the benefits are almost too numerable to count! Grand post! That was mature thinking and observation in the French class, it was one of the best examples I have read in ages that really gave impetus to the whole schism in this post! KUDOS! sam

I remember in my class Secondary Methods of Teaching history we were often talking about how things had come to a point where all people had to do was memorize. The course taught us a lot of ways to get to deeper levels of understanding.

I definitely am a reader, but I surely hope that I have had a few original thoughts along the way.

Something to think about Doc I do feel like I am little duck pitter pattering through your blog. I enjoyed it although I am not qualified to comment.

Very interesting and well written insights!

I like the meaningful rhymes too..:) Facts, history, etc. simply reinforce what a person believes as truth in their heart. Apparently Mr. Perry isn't sincere about closing down those infamous agencies, haha..And Mr. Cain would just rather not talk about all of his business experiences.. My two cents.
