A great post. I believe each case is individual, and should be thoroughly investigated by neutral persons. Sometimes it 'being a matter of principle' can be carried too far - the real intentions should be considered.

The lawyer representing one of the complainers has given money to Obama.
It seems strange that after 14 years the complainers surface just before an election for President, unless - it's politically motivated and the liberals fear Cain's high poll ratings.

I wish that he had put this out before the elections began because it would
be a dead dog now......perception and the law has changed over my life time.
Men used to raise their hats to women they knew when I was young...they would never stop to speak unless the woman was related.
Girls in offices had a terrible time with harassment and Nurses were little more than barmaids or Ladies of the night....unless a person was sick and needed their help.
but with change also came blurred lines. I remember one male in the mid eighties, when we reached his car asking me if I would allow him to open the door for me.
But again I have seen a Dr. sexually assault his female patient ...and when I made a complaint was threatened with dismissal.
This is a great post.

Re: Justi
I do think there are situations, though, where words can be used to verbally assault someone. I pray that is not the case for Mr. Cain.

Re: thomaspunch
The flip side is my sister's observation that 16 years after she signed a confidentiality statement and left employment due to sexual harassment, she can't talk about the incident without feeling anger. She observed that the woman in California was a bit too calm when telling her story. I think people react in different ways. Having been a victim of harassment, though, I thought it odd that my sister feels some of it may be someone wanting 15 minutes of fame.

Re: Sexual harassment unchecked can turn far more serious
I agree that the truth needs to be uncovered-whatever it turns out to be.

I thought that was a well-argued blog. Perceptions of behaviour does change with cultural changes. Our reactions to things will be different based on how we have been raised, in what kind of social environment we have been raised in.
I watched one of the women accusing Herman Cain of harrassement a few nights ago on the Piers Morgan show. I'm inclined to believe her, the reason being that when asked if Cain should be running for President - the woman (can't remember her name) responded not if he can't tell the truth. It was the way she answered it though, there was an integrity in how she answered the question that made me inclined to believe her. It was a blunt question, and she gave what I thought to be a perceptive answer.

Sexual harassment unchecked can turn far more serious
It is, as you say, not something to be ignored or taken lightly. Calls for further investigation; if it is more a matter of perception as opposed to actual harassment, at least it is out in the open and awareness is always a saving grace in communications, be they personal or public. To automatically reject the validity of a person's claim simply because you support the person being accused strikes me as hypocritical and telling. I can't understand the people who are doing so. (and I voted for Clinton but was disgusted by the revelations about him - I think he should have been impeached, removed and Gore made President!) If I supported Mr. Cain, I would want the whole truth and nothing but because the whole person of Mr. Cain is who would potentially sit in the Oval Office. Just my two cents.
Thank you for a thoughtful and well written post.

Thank you so much for putting this out there. I am woman enough to put to rest any remarks by an idiot. If it is not a physical attack a well adjusted woman can put a man in his place and make him think he is walking backward with his pants unzipped. There is no need for this to happen. Money is often the motivator.
