Re Magnificent Seven was a great western! He almost got
out-cooled by Steve McQueen! - Bob

He certainly had that air about him.

If he was in the movie I was sure it would be worth the price of admission.

Re: Re:I guess stamping bare feet was part of how he saw the role.
Whatever grace he showed in that movie was karate-like.  Like so many other people who act for a living, he could probably show conventional grace, too, but I don't know.  I'm always surprised to see their "other sides" in earlier movies - Alan Ladd, Jimmy Stewart, and Clint Eastwood could sing ballads. Richard Gere is. of course, an accomplished dancer.  Conversely, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and. of course, Frank Sinatra did some
v- Bobery good straight dramatic roles.  I guess it's a trade where you have to be ready for any job that comes along.

Re: Thank you, Shobana. I'm just about out of material and plan to post a
wrap-up that will serve as an introduction to The Haiku Project, which just kind of found its groove as it went on.  I've had fun trying to squeeze a worthwhile characterization into 17 syllables! - Bob

Re: Thank you. Your uncle and Bill's sound like they might have liked to
meet.  I remember as a teen, when TV first came out, watching a daily puppet show in which Brynner was a director of some kind.   The show was called, I think, Snarky Parker (another memorable name).  One time one of the puppets said that "Yul" meant sunrise.  In what language, I wonder? - Bob

Re: 2902I once read that when he auditioned for the role, he just squatted
on the stage with a guitar and howled a folkssong in some language the directors didn't understand.  Pretty cheeky, but he came across as exotic and confident,  traits they were looking for. so it worked.  What nationality was he, actually, do you know?  He and Anthony Quinn could portray a number of ethnic types effectively.  And I
didn't catch it - did your uncle relate or WAS he related? - Bob

Well Bill I mean and Bob I had an uncle who looked just like him from a distance when he did not wear a hat and when he did, he looked a bit like him except when  YUL was in the King and I. Because my uncle always smoked a pipe. You are really good at these Bob
