Re: CCT
Thanks for the advice. I will at least check their combs... :).... If I had a little video spy camera, I think that would work best. I could tape them and watch the tape later. I found 2 eggs today and I'm wondering if the extra oyster shell is making their eggs stronger?

Well MAR all you need do is lift your chickens up gently put your fingers over their bottoms you will feel two bones if they a close together you can be pretty sure that hen is not laying. Look at the chickens the ones with the nice red combs are OK., any with a shriveled comb pick up and if it feels light it is not going to do any good. There also is a sure fire method of telling which is laying, which you may not like to do . Also if the hen squats she is probably in lay/

Re: Justi
It could be an opposum (too), but I caught one eating an egg. I should have got rid of that one! I am just hoping it's only 1.

It's hard to believe that it's that time of the year when the gardens freeze...Those chickens are quite the cannibals there.

We had a hard freeze too and now my flowers and the last of the garden were ruined, too! I got plenty from it all so I am satisfied! I hope you get the chicken and the egg syndrome figured out soon, it has to be very frustrating! sam
