Re: sam444
I confess I see a more sinister side where via advertising and programming society's elite work on shaping the thoughts of those who must watch their work.

I am with you, there seems to be an ad to buy something everywhere we look these days! I find it to be over kill but it pays the bills for many so I suspect we have to live with it! I always oppose the ones who prey on children to get the latest, greatest, whatever it may be because it puts a strain on the parents' budgets! sam

Re: BC-A
Well I think there is the conscious point of advertising - to buy a product or service - and the unconscious, which is the sale of a culture or an ideal (buying things makes you happy)

ã Contrary to your intent advertisers use this principle to get the viewers’ loyalty as customers. They want them to buy their product or use their service (the more common commercials on American television now). BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Re: actually it is freedom if you switch off the television and live your own
It is, at times, a siren call. For instance, I sometimes wonder why everyone else likes "reality shows" and I detest them. And then there's Fox News - but I won't go there. You have a wonderful, wonderful whimsy! - Bob
