Very comforting thought Bob. I don't want to be facetious but you could have said an Alsatian. There again I am such a coward.

Re:Maybe I just like the breed, Jay, or maybe it was Max himself -
we really loved that dog. He was funny and playful, but when he stood at attention, head up, he had an imperial bearing. And woe betide the cats, squirrels, dogs (no matter how big) that strayed onto our property! He didn't know he was a little dog.- Bob

I don't know why, but this poem touched me. I could see the brave little dog and feel the comfort you both gave to each other...a wonderful poem indeed.

Re: great post and they have such keen hearing.
Hearing, smell, disposition - the dachshunds have us beat. Stubborn as hell, but bright, affectionate, and full of energy. Max, the one in the poem, would sit in Ginnie's lap and lick her paralyzed left arm until she stopped him.
No other dog looks quite as alert when he stands at attention. When any other dog came on the property, he'd forget he was a little dog and chase them off. I miss him. - Bob
