I'd be willing to bet that you handled it just right by discussing it with T first, and coming up with a great idea to encourage her writing, yet also encourage her to respect the teacher's authority. However - I would do what Sam suggested too - make sure the teacher doesn't go overboard on her power trip! Respect earns respect!

I would have been in the heads office with the Teacher in tow by now.....
I was a terrible mother...always at the school if one of my boys was being treated unfairly. I didn't always know when something happened but when I did hear....the volcano erupted. I can't believe that she threw creative work in the TRASH!!!!And then talking to you behind T's back.....instead of the two of you.......I had better stop before I am down there telling that teacher...well never mind....you are getting good advice here from the others.

Actually, I'm glad I don't have to handle situations like this anymore.  I'm a bit brain tired these days.  I think "T" has a very good grandma who loves and supports her and who tries very hard to handle problems in the right way.  Good for you.

Very wise advice, Ms. Sam! Thank you for the input and I think you are correct about watching!

It's not a perfect world that's for certain! It's tough to surmise her rationale so it might behoove you to keep an eye on how she deals with specific situations to determine if there is trend. It's tough to teach kids that some folks are just not good in authoritarian situations and yet one must respect the position they hold. So, we can disagree with anything and anyone, it's how we do it that makes the person become what they will! sam
