Kabu, inflation, too, adds to this problem for many folks.

FSI, one of the seldom mentioned important things: a budget helps relieve
at least some of the stress associated with personal finances.

Re: reasons, yes between monthly, quarterly, and yearly expenses...
Rumor, how right you are! So often there are unexpected expenses, which means that you have to 'reboot', so to speak.

there are always things to budget for...how people can "budget by the seat of their pants" (so to speak) is beyond me....

BC-A, yes, bills do like to come and visit but they don't 'pay' a visit.

sam444, I, too, use baking soda for cleaning lots of things, and save
electricity in much the same way as you do.

I am a huge advocate of budgets! I could never live without one! I try to have a bit of discretionary money during the month, too! I have a person that I would work with on their budget and she has to save monthly for the property taxes so I just put it as part of the total house payment monthly as well as the house insurance and all is good. I rent right now so I do not have that line item to deal with currently but I know what a bane it can be as well. I believe budgets keep folks on task and allows them to understand where the money goes and to make payments in a timely fashion. I keep track of the utilities from month to month and year to year so that I can reduce them each month wherever possible. In the last year I only had an increase in home heating by $2 and that was in June because we had such a cold spring. There was a time when I wasted money on household cleaning products then I did some research and now I use vinegar, baking soda, ammonia, a bit of bleach plus a little Dawn soap and I have a cleaner, fresher smelling home as a result! I just felt the store products were masking odors rather than getting them clean. Alas, a never ending cycle at times. Good luck with the budget and I hope you a most fruitful year ahead. sam
