Re: A principled objection and Some suggestions for TV shows
Needless to say, I agree with everything you have mentioned. Hopefully, from my interpretation of your response, you agree with me that the Jersey Shore show shines a terrible light on our state, and as you've written, there are dozens of other venues that could be pursued by various television stations to show a real version of Jersey. Thanks for writing.

A principled objection and Some suggestions for TV shows

I reject, on principle, ALL subsidies, tax credits and other inducements for alien (out of state) businesses to operate in our state. We should, instead, be punitively taxing all alien ownership of New Jersey businesses and land, including the imputed equity ownership of mortgage lenders, that is the portion of the original collateral value represented by unpaid principal on mortgage loans.

As for true entertainment in New Jersey, we could telecast the performances of our high school marching bands -- besides my daughter's band, http://www.mhsorangebowl.com/, whose half-time performance will be telecast on January 4th at 8pm EST -- as well as the host of other musical, dance and theatrical performances by New Jerseyans of every age. The Raconteur, also in Metuchen, has a full schedule of radio plays, readings, bands and other entertainment which should reach a larger audience than that bookstore can hold. Metuchen also has live performances at the Forum and open mikes of exceptional quality at Brewed Awakening and What's the Scoop about once a month. The Barron Arts Center in Woodrbidge is home to Poet's Wednesday on the second Wednesday of each month. Even an occasional broadcast from these venues and others like them would greatly enhance the programming available on television.

If MTV wants to show the REAL Jersey Shore with professional talent, a good place to start would be to do a show live from The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. Another good shore venue is Point Pleasant Beach where Big Joe Henry does his talent shows during the summer. Summer is also the season for national dance competitions in Atlantic City and environs. I have not even touched the subject of the visual arts, both at the shore and throughout New Jersey.

Re:
You're welcome. And as far as Christie for president, I must admit I have mixed feelings about it, for two reasons. First, after months and months of denial after denial, it would seem somewhat deceiving of him to suddenly say "Oh, alright . . . I'll run for president." And secondly, he isn't done cleaning up New Jersey yet, which should be his top priority right now. The only thing that makes me think he could be a decent presidential candidate for the Republican party is to simply compare him to the current field. Gas chamber? Hangman's noose? Firing squad? Take your pick!

I, for one, hope Governor Christie runs for President.  I appreciate your interesting comment on my post.
