Re: put it on the long moral-debt-list with the rest:
Yes, unfortunately, the list is even longer than that. I have a friend who truly feels that animals were put on this earth simply as "food and entertainment." And he's a Christian! Regardless of what you may believe, I don't think God put animals on earth with us just to be abused, tortured and mistreated in every way imaginable. One of the absolute saddest things I have ever seen in my life was a video of a dog, strapped into a ridiculously tight harness, with wired apparatus' forcing his eyes open, while some jack-off in a lab coat sprayed perfume its eyes as a "test." The poor dog whined sorrowfully and shook uncontrollably the whole time, obviously in pain, discomfort and fear. As I wrote, it makes you ashamed to be a human sometimes.

put it on the long moral-debt-list with the rest:

bear-baiting
bull fighting
horses ridden into battle, for ages of human history
dolphins trained to place bombs on enemy ships
chimps  abuse for performance in movies, circuses
all sentient animals in medical and especially cosmetics research

etc.

To some of us, 'dominion' means stewardship; to others, it just means using.

Re: Too important a post to miss.....even as it breaks your heart.
Well, from what I've always understood, it's the squeaky wheel who gets the grease. Injustices and tragedies like this, heartbreaking and disgusting as they are, need to be brought to light before anything can be done about them. Hopefully ( and gladly ) saner and more sympathetic minds will continue to stop atrocities such as this in the future.

Re:
I'm glad you agree, along with the thousands of others. The real shame is the percentage of people out there who don't.

Re: But aren't you beign brutal with the veggie, when you are plucking and
Please tell me you're kidding, right? This isn't like an episode of Lost In Space, where the plant-life has feelings. Besides, anything with a name like broccoli, asparagus or turnip deserves to be boiled in . . . er . . . water ( not oil ). But c'mon, not a dog!
