I hid my pregnancy from the world for as long as possible only telling
immediate family until I began to "show" around the 4 months and one was said to be safely pregnant and not likely to lose the child.
I may have been married but I was still closely dictated to by Mother and I wouldn't have dreamed of disobeying her.

One thing that is so different today is the prevalence of the no-clothes covering the "baby bump" pictures. In my day, we tried in every way to disguise that bump so it wouldn't show. Where I worked, you weren't allowed to work past the seventh month, but had to start your maternity leave then.
