it would be the easiest on the poor whose purchasing power is limited. Also, it could lead to a reduction in the number of poor folks by improving the business climate and thus provide more jobs.

Kabu, most interesting to hear how it worked where it has been tried. I wonder if it were tried in the U.S. with all purchases equally taxed or even with luxury items taxed more, it might work better. It seems to me that the most simple, efficient, and effective system would be to tax all items the same. This would prevent the inevitable debates over what is necessity and what is luxury.

In theory it does but you find that the necessities of life that
we all need are taxed higher than luxury goods. tried it in Australia and we now find ourselves with taxes to be paid on top of taxes!
