How exciting Symphony!  It's wonderful having the freedom of a car.  I hope you come back soon and tell us all about it, and let us know you're okay despite the rioting over there.

My first car was a 1973 (I think) VW Rabbit.  This was in 1992 so the car was old and had been kept next to one of the Great Lakes.  It was so rusted out and beat up that when I tried to shift it the stick fell right through the floor onto the pavement.  KLUNK.

I highly recommend a vehicle less than 10 years old, unless you know a VERY good mechanic :)

It was a 1959 Chev BelAir...
Cars don't get much bigger or uglier than it was.  Truth...I only owned half of it, shared it with another guy in my barracks but at least we got to see the sights around Anchorage Alaska.  For that it was perfect.

My first car was a 1961 VW bug. My dad bought it for me when I was 15, but I could only drive on the dirt roads an the ranch we lived until I was 16. It was fun to drive and sometimes I still wish I had it!

I had a Morris Marina
which, in the '70's, was a bit like a tank. On my first post-test solo run I left the choke in and we charged up and down hills as if there was no tomorrow

I well remember mine. It was an old banger running on oil, and broke down every time I drove it. Had to keep calling my dad to come and rescue me...

My father always gave us children huge tanks for cars when we first drove.
We did not, not know how to drive well and would experience many accidents, most safely in our tanks. A small car might have jeopardized us fledgling drivers.........I had a 1965 Cadillac, blue with huge shark finned rocket launchers at the very back. People hit me as I drove badly, but messed up their little cars and I was fine.

Stay with BIG until you are a fabulous driver, then, do what you will..............best wishes for fewest bumpy experiences.........

It was a long time ago and an old  white mustang with a stick shift I could not drive and off driving lessons.  I hope you get one you like that works for you  and you get the confidence to be happy driving.

It's natural to feel happy when you get anything new and for the first time

I grew up pretty poor since I didn't have a dad, so I went to work and saved up $200 and at the beginning of my Senior year, I bought a black 1955 Ford with black leather interior (oh, that was hot). I only knew to go by and get gas and air up the tires. When I married after graduation my husband changed the oil and it never ran as good after that!    No one told me to change the oil!!  Ha!

The first car I drove after I got my driver's license was a 1954 Ford Crown Victoria that my hubby bought used before we were married.  It was fun to drive.  It had a stick shift, a big engine, a tacometer (most cars didn't have that in those days), and it would pass anything and everything on the road.  I used to love to drag and see the fellows get upset when they couldn't take out as fast as I.

One of these days I'll have to repost about some of my
automotive monstrosities. My first car was a '66 bird doot white Chevy Nova -- most reliable car I've ever owned. Couldn't kill it with dynamite. The worst car I ever owned -- which was the first one I actually bought myself, with my own money, was a beat up used MG-B. When it ran, it was awesome. But it never ran...

hi Symphony...

My first car was a 1959 Chev Impala, black exterior and red interior...It had something like 75,000 miles on it at the time (well broken in...:) but I saw it turn over 100,000 miles...It was a big car, a V-8 (today it would be a gas guzzler)...

I'll never forget the freedom I felt when I took Liz for her first ride in it.  We just drove and drove and of course got into trouble when we got back (nothing too serious..:).....

I remember my first one! It was an automatic transmission and I didn't know how to put it in gear because I had learned on a stick! Well, it was a whole new world with an automatic and I loved it! lol I paid $100 for it too, not gonna happen these days! My second car was the best, a 1964 1/2 red mustang! The first song on the radio was Don Mclean's American Pie! You brought good memories for me! Send best wishes for a great first car for you and have a great weekend! sam
