Re: I grew up
I hear you. Same here. I have seen some musical GIANTS! Eric Johnson, Guitar Shorty and Buddy Guy just to name a few. What's sad is that they will only play venues like H.O.B./N.O. I like that joint but it would be nice to se them play in some of the original spots that some played 40-50 years ago. New Orleans runs in cycles. About every 20-25 years it gets a little rough and the N.O.P.D. have to put the grips on them. Un-necessary and stupid violence! And for what? I have never been to Austin, though I have a few friends that live there. Austin City Lights? I think I saw some good shows on LPB. Stevie Ray and Johnson and Satriani

I grew up
In Texas. In 1988 we moved to Austin. I had lived in Arizona, California, and a short time in Nevada as well as being "in and out" of Texas. Austin was soooo very different then. We had the infamous "Sixth Street". One could roam from bar to bar listening to great blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, oldies, whatever you wanted in the way of music we had.
Well, we still "Sixth Street" but roaming it is not recommended any more. I guess there is still some blues, and jazz at least somewhere. However, it is not recommended these days.
I left the area in 1991, had been in and out living and working across the nation. I drove commercially.
Austin has it's new rules, "KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD" AND GUESS WHAT, THEY MEAN IT.
