Hmmmmmm .....
I just go with the flow. I like to pay but it is nice to hear him offer (chivalry feels nice). Spontaneity is more my style I guess. If only I was not a hermit - hehehehe

it starts out

I like to pay, it makes me feel like a big shot.  I like the woman chosen to accompany me to look good , smell good, carry herself with dignity and class.  No profanity, no flirting with the good looking waiter, no hogging the conversation, or interrupting.  No sloshing the whole bottle of wine down, then pouting for another bottle.

No I do not want to come in and spend the night with an agressive almost pissed herself drunk.  I little smooch here and there but no daytime television 'wham bam thank you mam'.

No, I don't want to go to church with you, then spend the rest of the day at the church picnic trying to figure out a way to get into your pants, or dress, or smock.

I'll pay, but it would be very disrespectful of me to think I was paying for the laying.   And why does the laying have to be so important anyway?  Insecurity!!!!!

" Make sure that the screwing your getting now, is worth the screwing you are going to get later." a quote from a female friend of mine.

I believe the one asking should be the one paying unless otherwise stated! sam

I say that your approach makes a lot of sense, Jeff.

Well, I am a woman well over 50 and was spoiled by date rules of the 1950's.  But, somewhere along the way I decided that going Dutch was a fine way to go.  I also like the idea of the inviter taking care of the tab.  I must admit though, that since most men I know and socialize with are around my age, they automatically insist on paying for everything because that is the way their minds have always worked.
