This is a beautiful moment you've captured!
and I agree, it is all about showing what you saw and felt, not what the camera saw.
I'm betting you have not yet discovered 'curves' which lets you fine-tune the color tones along three lines. I'm guessing this shot would love to have a little less magenta to it... with curves, you bend the green/magenta line up a little... Or it might like a touch more yellow: that is the blue/yellow curve. Then there is the red/cyan curve.
Sometimes I will hit auto-exposure, rather than auto-fix because I often don't like the auto color results.
