Pharaoh's Hardened Heart
I am bewildered that you say, "It would be too much to say that God forced Pharaoh to harden his heart." First, Pharaoh didn't harden his heart, God did. The word "hardened" means that God made the prospect of Israel's departure from Egypt weigh heavier on Pharaoh than it would have otherwise. The more common interpretation is that God ruled in the heart of Pharaoh as He does in the hearts of all men. No less than 8 times we are told that God hardened Pharaoh's heart. God still hardens the hearts of men as is revealed in the New Testament. Paul wrote this: Therefore hath he (God) mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth." Romans 9:18 God continues to rule in the hearts of men to bring about His eternal plan. The tragedy is that many in whom God is ruling, whether it be hardening or wooing,do not recognize that God is at work in them.
KEEP ON PROCLAIMING GOD'S WORD AND GOD BLESS.....
