my children know about it all and they are aged 7 and 12 years old, but thats because I make them watch the news and crimewatch and we talk about it, I know people will jump in and say children should just be children but in this day and age they need to to be aware....

This post of yours makes me curious as to how much my grandchildren know about this and other important matters.  Not counting the two babies or Phil, they range in age from 15 to 24 and I have not really had opportunity to sit down and talk with them about such matters to see what they think since they all live far away.  Peter and I used to talk about stuff like this and I pretty much know what he thinks but now he is off in the Marines and so much he is not allowed to talk about.

Naut
Although it may be disappointing - even a little scary - that generation X (is that who they are?) don't know much about what's going on globally, it's equally unsettling that they don't even know anything about the candidate running in their riding or what each political party stands for.  And they vote....

It's amazing what people do not know.

it really shows a lack of teaching from parents and it also shows what kids
spend their time doing....I think their gadgetry toys are more real to them than reality. How can a generation brought up on electronic pets distinguish between reality and fiction Superman and bin Laden.

It is not t heir fault but ours... the adults in their life... the parents and uncles and teachers who have failed them.  Part of preparing our children for the world is showing them what evil is and though I agree that todlers should not be exposed to the devastation of our daily life... 7 and up is old enough to know the extent to which a human being can descend into evilness...  My children and my grandchildren that are old enough know what the holocaust was, who did it and to the extent that it can be explained... why.  They also know about terrorism and ceirtainly they know who Bin Laden is.  It is sad Naut that so many did not know... xoxoxo

For me, they show no ability to vote with an informed vote at 16. It is a startling fact that so many were so oblivious! Shelly
