That is priceless I never fail to be amazed and delighted at how clever
critters really are.........ps.....I adore non poisonous snakes.

oops If one's across your path, you might have to shy a stone at him to make him move.  they're not poisonous but can be irritable and will bite, given the chance.  I'd never heard of one pretending to be a ratler, though.  He still didn't quite have the hang of it - he didn't coil up. An interesting encounter Bob. You say it stood it`s ground? Are they normally aggressive? We in Aussie have the

red bellied black snake, they are generally shy creatures and take off pretty quick. I have quite a few in the

garden.
