Re: I only write poetry by inspiration...
I appreciate your feedback, it makes me reflect on writing. I, too, create poems that have no particular style. I think there is no right or wrong way to approach poetry, that is what makes it so rich and exciting. Today I wrote a poem while listening to music. Like you say, it just is what it is. But there is such a history and context to poetry, as a whole. I don't mind trying different approaches. Inspiration comes from the unlikeliest places, or so I find. Thanks for sharing, and I would like to keep dialogue like this up.

I only write poetry by inspiration. I'm not the type that can sit down & come up with something on the spot. Sometimes, words will start to form in my mind & I need to create a poem. I don't set out to do any particular style. They just are what they are. I will go check your poetry out.

Re:
Yes, sonnets were something I looked at in high school, and then forgot. Anachronistic? Well, at least they seem to get me writing.

I have written a sonnet or three, but I can't tell you where they are, because I can't even find them anymore.

Re: I write sonnets and other forms...
I understand. I, too, can get too focused on the meter and rhyme. I often turn to formal poetry when I am feeling kind of blocked up. The focus on the formal elements seems to help me get over my blockage. I love free verse, don't get me wrong. As I feel more confident, I will be trying more and more of my old stuff. I really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks

I write sonnets and other forms like blank verse and haiku, but I seldom post them here, I feel that the form is good for practice but I can't seem to convey my feelings with a sonnet...I am always to worried about the meter and the rhyme, so it is mostly free verse that I post on blogit.
